You may need to edit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base (make a backup 1st)
Probably need to change it to options snd-hda-intel model=
Look for your model here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1043568

In my case it is "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf"
I followed the instructions given at the ubunruforums...
At the end of the file I entered options snd-hda-intel model=hp but was not successful yet...Using Rhythmbox Music Player, I can watch the play bar moving and see visualization, but no sound.
Do I have to be connected to the Internet for this alsa reload procedure... :idea:

try this

Post by pdc_2 »

can I ask you to try something, to see if it is any help?

If you go to Sound and Video, and select Pulseaudio volume control; click on the left most tab, Playback

If you select that with no audio stream running;

then start an application playing sound: a sound stream should register; RIGHT-CLICK on that; it should offer move streams; click to the stream you want;

do you now get sound?

Thanks, pdc 2.....It didn't work... I get the message "Connection failed: Connection terminated", before I even can open the Playback tab...See Screen shot...
