Game using WINE net connection error
I have just installed Linux Mint 7 and im trying to run my Football Manager Live game (through WINE) which connects to a server to run.
As you can see i have internet no problem, but when i launch the game i get
"unable to connect to the football manager live auto download server, please check your internet connection"
i found this on the site
Football Manager Live requires access through the following ports:
9999 :: Game Server
9920 :: Login Server
im not sure how i check this on Mint though or if its a WINE problem.
The game runs fine on the latest Ubuntu 9.04 just for reference
any help would be great, cheers

Re: Game using WINE net connection error
have you got a firewall enabled? if so you need to either disable it (mint doesn't really need it) or add exception rules for the port specified.
Re: Game using WINE net connection error
nope the firewall is disabled, not sure how to work with the ports
Re: Game using WINE net connection error
You can try changing your Wine configuration. Sometimes Windows 95 or Windows NT works better.
Re: Game using WINE net connection error
Hmm, the only other thing I can think of is which version of wine? Are you using the same version under Jaunty as under Gloria? Are you using the standard repo version or the winehq repo version?
Re: Game using WINE net connection error
im using version 1.0.1 of WINE on Mint and Ubuntu
Re: Game using WINE net connection error
Well ok, try using the winehw repo version instead, see if that solves your problem.
Re: Game using WINE net connection error
just follow the instructions at the winehq ubuntu download page, but where it references "Software Sources" use Synaptic --> Setting --> Repos instead. You should be able to work the rest out on your own.
Re: Game using WINE net connection error
sorry im being a total n00b, i think the fact its ubuntu instructions thats confusing me, what is winehw? i followed the ubuntu page and added the source but then its asking me to go to the authentication tab and allow a file, but of course i dont have this tab to go into
Re: Game using WINE net connection error
winehq is the website of the wine project, it includes the app database for compatibility. Sorry forgot about that stage, you should be able to safely ignore the authentication tab stage, provided you then also ignore any subsequent "This package cannot be authenticated" warnings.
