While in Mint, open Synaptic and install kGrub.
Start kGrub, if you see both operating systems listed go to Tools>Install/Restore Grub.
When the Install Assistant window pops up click Next.
Make sure "Install Grub on a Hard Disk Drive/Partition is checked", then click Next.
Then for the "Install on:" entry click suggestions. Choose hd0 or /dev/sda. It should be hd0 in Mint. Click Finish and you should be good to go.

That's really strange, since Mint and Ubuntu use the exact same installer. I hope you're happy with the results but IMO Mint is much better than Ubuntu. Now that you have a working Grub you may want to either try replacing Ubuntu with Mint or add Mint to your current setup.
