Icons not Refreshing at Save [SOLVED]

Postby utisest on Sat Jun 20, 2009 9:43 am

When a program saves a file the icon text of that file does not refresh or update, so when I want to make a back up by drag and drop to my flash drive I have to be very careful. Is this being addressed?

The program you're using Celtx, does indeed have an unusual problem saving the correct date and time when updating an existing .celtx file.

There does appears to be a workaround however: When you're in nautilus click on the "Reload" button and the date and time will be changed. Why it does this I don't know but since it's a self contained application that you installed from outside the repos and that really isn't installed there is no telling what it's doing in there.

Thanks Altair, I have never run Nautilus, knowingly anyway. I only used Celtx as an example. The text under the icon does not dynamically update when I drag and drop any file into any directory. Right click-properties is the easiest way around, but it would be useful if this information was easier to hand. Hanging the mouse over the icon for instance.

OK, now you've got me confused. The "text under the icon" will never change unless you change the file name. Are you changing the file name?

I have my prefs set to show the date and time under the file name, these prefs do not update.

Ok, so that explains a few things, sorry for my earlier post, it really would be useful to have had all this info to start with. You've always run nautilus unknowingly, whenever you open a file-browser, e.g. to browse your home directory. Now that you know this, you should be able to use the reload button altair mentioned to update the display, which is also reloaded automatically as soon as you re-open the folder.
