SOLVED-and I'm the numpty-GRUB problem following upgrade

This is my first post on this forum.
I had Mint 6 dual booting with Windows Vista.
Ignoring the advice that the more reliable upgrade path was the "terminal" method, I chose the easier "graphical" method.
All seems to be working except for two things.
1/ If I want to boot into Vista (don't laugh)- I get an error message: Error 11 Unrecognized device string.
When I press any key as asked, I get what looks like GRUB but looking almost like I'm in terminal.
When I tab to Vista, it then boots as normal.
Is there any way I can lose this?
Also, I get the message unable to find /usr/share/gdm/themes/Human/Hunanxml.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this. Please?

I would rather expect the location to be /usr/share/themes/Human and it should be Human.xml

The theme is for gdm, so the location is correct but it's not installed.

Yes it was Human.xml.
My typo.
I can't find Human in the themes folder, so how do I lose the error message?

you should be able to install the gnome-themes-ubuntu package, which should include human.

It was another of the Gnome themes packages in Synaptic,so that error message has gone.

However, the link for the explanation of the problem with GRUB and Vista went straight over my head.
WAY too complicated.

And I have received compliments for how easy to understand it is
But it is no simple matter - basically it is a problem in some cases that the "naming" of the hard disks is not consistent and so they are not found
But reading that error again (Error 11 Unrecognized device string.) leads me in another direction

That can not be the entire menu.lst
Just in case do it again slightly changed

This should make the entire menu.lst appear in a file called menulisting in home if you open the terminal from the menu
To be clear - is the problem when you try to start Vista?

Now this is getting bizarre.
The problem occurs when I want to boot into Vista.
It's fine if I boot into Mint.
What happens is that I get the normal, rather whizzy looking Menu for what I want to boot into.
If I select "other operating system" i.e. Vista, I then get the "unrecognised device string" error message and it tells me to press any key.
When I do that, I then get the samr list of options as in the original bootloader screen, but in a much plainer format.

Note that I have made a small change to the Vista section - it should be rootnoverify not root I think
This is provided Vista is on sda2 the second partition, and an extended partition is needed but it should be there - it would not work otherwise

You're right. I had duplicated it by puttuing the same line in terminal twice.
I hadn't read your earlier post correctly- - and I was expecting the list to come up in terminal.

Don't select Other operating systems: you should be selecting Windows Vista/Longhorn (loader)

When the pretty Mint bootloader comes up, It only says "other operating systems", but does not specify Widows Vista/ LOnghorn until I get the plain version after the error message.

Problem solved, and I'm a complete numpty.
The Bootloader screen only holds so many lines.
Tab down PAST the "Other Operating Systems" brings up another line saying, yes, you've guessed it, Vista/Longhorn Loader.
