How do I change the wallpaper the screen lock is using?

Postby exploder on Sun May 31, 2009 7:48 pm

I want the screen lock background to be the same as my wallpaper or else black but the new default wallpaper shows up.... How do I change this?

I kinda thought it might be an image in "/usr/share", but wasnt sure.

Check these links:

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=62226

These are for a Gnome solution though.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply but the default background is not there. You and I must have used the same key words for a search because I had the same results!

*bump*

Also looking for a solution to this. I've looked through the lock-dialogue-default.glade file in /usr/share/gnome-screensaver and a few other places to no avail.

Sussed it out.

/usr/share/backgrounds/Dew.jpg is the default image used in Gloria.

You can either replace that file with the another image of the same name or edit:

/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/%gconf-tree.xml

Code: Select all
<entry name="picture_filename" mtime="1244020690" type="string">
<stringvalue>/usr/share/backgrounds/Dew.jpg</stringvalue>
</entry>

Subsequent updates of MintSystem revert the changes to /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/%gconf-tree.xml as expected so a more permanent solution might be to simply replace the default image. Then again, another update may also replace the images in /usr/share/backgrounds though I'd wager it's less likely to occur (if at all) than a MintSystem update.

Just a quick FYI ;)

I've been trying to correct this for a while, as I don't want to be looking at a corporate logo when I go to my computer (even linux mint, which I love).
If you're using LM 13 with MATE, go to /usr/share/backgrounds/linuxmint, and replace default_background.jpg with your own selection. Will have to gksu cp your_selection.jpg default_background.jpg. Solved it for me...
