Borked my MintMenu--deleted Wine entry and can't restore

Postby kwatson512 on Fri Jun 26, 2009 6:27 pm

I tried to install iTunes under Wine and it interfered with my display, so I used the uninstaller within Wine to uninstall, but that didn't work. So I decided to uninstall/reinstall Wine. I used Synaptic to uninstall, and then deleted the ~/.wine directory. So far, so good. On reboot, I discovered Wine was still displayed as an option in MintMenu, and Apple Software Update, Quicktime, and iTunes were also there. So I decided to go into Edit Menu and delete the Wine entry.

Next I reinstalled Wine (I use it for another application) but the menu entry didn't come back. And I don't know how to restore it manually. Can someone help?

Mint 7 Gloria. Right-click on "Menu", then select "Edit menu". I didn't just uncheck Wine, I deleted it. :(

Wine is a just a subdirectory, so "when its working" it can be archived / compressed / copied elsewhere ..

but *not* when you delete it ! :)

so, now you will have to re-install ..
( I found that the ./wine directory had to be deleted as well, before re-installing )
( or I couldn't get a clean install - this was in LM6, though)

I reinstalled, and it's working. But the menu listing didn't come back, even after re-booting.

...and I removed ~/.wine before reinstalling.

Right click Menu on the desk top, choose Edit menu, now under applications I just used the Revert button and back came Wine et al..
seems to work.
I've only been using Linux a few weeks and Mint is my first go at it,guess work,
trial and error, etc.and so fourth.
