[invalid] files copied onto desktop invisible, needs reboot

Post by alanstanley »

Has anybody else seen this behaviour? More than once now files and folders that I have dragged and dropped onto the desktop have disappeared completely (they are no longer in the source directory). I was also unable to create a new folder on the desktop (or rather I tried repeatedly with no result visible). After a re-boot the copied folders appeared - as did the newly created empty folders..... :?

Have you actually opened the file manager (Nautilus) to see if the files are there in the Desktop folder? I bet they are. I suspect you are running something like "conky" which is interfering with the drawing of desktop icons (it sometimes does this), in which case you need to read the conky documentation and change some of its setup info.

Please read the how-to on reporting bugs http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=166&t=28186 this problem should probably be posted in the Support forum first, so we can determine the bugginess.

sorry for delay in replying - was hit by lightening and have been without internet connection. Next time it happens I will check if the files are visible in the desktop folder in nautilus. I am not running conky however - just gnome do in docky mode. I will check on the bug reporting procedure as you suggest, and if it happens again will post again in the support forum.
