which sounds very close to our goal for this distro. As I said not really a new feature request, but possibly interesting to experiment with. Most of all, I want to get LinuxMCE accepted into other Distro's as a standard desktop option. I humbly think this is important for Linux to be a viable option for home pc users, like it already is for commercial servers because, in the home, everyone is starting to expect their pc's to be media hubs. Windows Vista even includes the media center edition standard on every version now. Ultimately it would be nice if a home user could to a retail store to buy a big-name home PC, like a Dell or an HP, and have the option of choosing Windows or Linux, just like somebody shopping for a server does today.

linuxMCE
not exactly a single new feature request but it might be interesting to have a look at. LinuxMCE was recently released as a working project for Ubuntu, but I have not been able to get it working under Linux mint. I was wondering if it would be possible to have a look at getting it working under mint and possibly including the installer package in mint (the whole thing is much too large as it takes up most of a CD with its packages). The person who developed it says in his history/road map of the project here
"To absent friends, lost loves, old gods, and the season of mists; and may each and every one of us always give the devil his due."
I dont know if it is out goal but it is a great idea.
It could be an option at install (or after):
-workstation
-MCE
would this be the same as adding MythTV to the distro. but then you have knopMyth.
I would like an MCE computer but not all of my computers to be one.
Then you can have a front end MCE and a backend MCE...
It would be a cool feature/tool/addon though.
The next step.

Now where was i going? Oh yes, crazy!
I did try and install it on top of mint, but only twice. It did not seem to like it, but it could have been anything as I then swapped to ubuntu to check that the package CD was actually working.
You can set it up in one of 2 ways; "primarily a PC" where it boots into the installed OS, and "primarily media center" where it boots to LinuxMCE with the option to boot to installed OS. I can not really say how well this works as the GUI does not work on my test box as I think I have misconfigured the onboard video card. I will try setting it up again tonight and report back

I've tried installing Linux MCE as well. Their website claims that you don't need to be a Linux geek or even have computer skills to get it up and running, but so far that does not seem to be the case.
I've tried it three times. The first was with Linux Mint. When that didn't work, I figured that there were some modified files in Mint as opposed to Gnome on Ubuntu 6.10, so I tried it again with 6.10. Same results.... nothing.
Third time, I selected the "dedicated Linux MCE option". This time the Linux MCE installation appeared to be successful at first, but then after beginning the configuration process, it crashed, and after that would not boot into either Ubuntu or the Linux MCE.
But then Windows MCE hates my hardware as well, so don't take my word for it. Try it out for yourself - but not recommended on your main working PC.

one thing I found with Linux MCE is that it takes ages to get to the configuration section of the install, so long that I thought it had crashed the first time I installed it and turned it off, so it might be worth leaving it a bit longer and seeing whether it actually gets there.

I am running the installer once it is done I will post a How to so you can install it on Linux Mint 2.2 Full Gnome Edition.
Also anyone got the default sources.list for Linux Mint 2.2 Gnome?
Update:
I have gotten Linux MCE installed on Linux Mint 2.2 and
I'm in the process of writing a How to here http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2819
They are porting Xbox Media Center to Linux. http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/?ti ... rt_project
I have been using it on my Xbox for some years and it's great.
This would be awesome to have for Linux Mint.
This is what it looks like on Ubuntu.
