Mint 7: moving/removing dividers

I just installed Mint 7 64x, and the MintMenu already had some favorites chosen.

Most of those were not what I considered "favorites", and so I right clicked on them and chose "Remove from favorites" and then populated my favorites with my actual favorites.

The problem is the the original setup had favorites divided by grey divider lines.

Now I have two grey divider lines that are doing nothing but taking up space.

Is there a way to either move these so they are functional or remove them altogether?

You could try gconf-editor, apps, mintMenu, plugins, applications, check "hide separator".

Is this something you've done? Do you have any reason to believe that this will work?

Well, I tried it anyway... did not work. Unless re-booting is necessary...

Yes, you were a Guinea Pig. Why should I bugger up my menu for someone else?
If that didn't work try right-clicking on the Menu button, choose Preferences, Favorites and see if changing columns does anything....

Aren't the people who coded the MintMenu here? Is there no one who knows how to move or remove these dividers?

If there isn't a way to move or remove these dividers, I'd like to suggest that they be left off.

In fact, I really question the idea of pre-loading favorites in the first place... The chances that the Mint team will pick favorites that everyone will want permanently are pretty slim.

I read a serious amount of frustration in your last post. There is a Suggestions Forum where your post might do more good, provided it is written nicely (as those that code mintMenu are volunteers after all). But then you could just "ask for your money back"

However, I think I found the file where those separators are - so you could just edit it with a text editor to get rid of them:

~/.linuxmint/mintMenu/applications.list

right-click select

• Remove
• Insert space
• Insert separator

--the effect should be immediate..

And what happens if you right click on (not while mint menu is opened) the Mint menu>Preferences>Favorites TAB>, and adjust the number of columns or the icon size

Ah! That worked! I had right clicked on the menu panel many times, it never occurred to me to try right clicking on the dividers.
