handbrake and OGMrip lock up computer solved

Post by acithium »

I've got a Dell inspiron 1520 and it runnning Linux min 7 x64. Everything runs perfect on it, but when i try to rip dvds with handbrake 64 or OGM rip, sometimes it works, and sometimes my computer locks up and the caps lock and scroll lock lights blink over and over. I have no idea what's causing the problem, but i'm willing to try any suggestions.

Thanks
-D

__Update, I found the culprit. The kernel panics are being caused by the broadcom STA x64 driver. I just switched to the fw-cracked driver and everything started working fine.

Yep, various proprietary drivers can cause all sorts of issues in the free software stack, glad to see you solved the problem.
