Installing Gnome's NetworkManager Applet in XFCE

I prefer the NetworkManager Applet in Gnome better than the combo of WICD and GPRS QuickConnect used in XFCE mainly because my cell phone is my internet connection.

NetworkManager Applet combines the functionality of both of these and is located right there in the System Tray area.

To install Gnome's NetworkManager Applet in XFCE open terminal and type:

sudo apt install network-manager-gnome

Answer yes to installing the new data.

When I restarted my computer the next time there was that familiar Gnome NetworkManager Applet greeting me in the system tray.

And if you don't want Gnome NM in gnome just do

apt install wicd

That will remove gnome NM the same way as wicd is removed if you install NM
The gnome NM behaves really bad with static IP
