Another One With No Sound

Post by theevilone6620 »

Whats up everyone. Im totally new to Linux so I have no idea how to use the Terminal to implement changes to my system yet. My problem is that I have no sound except through headphones. Im using a HP DV4 1275mx, Ive read a lot about HP not having sound on linux until a changes is implemented. Problem is I have no idea how to make that change. Can anyone explain to me exactly what I have to do in order to fix this issue. Heres a little info that may help I hope:

I have no idea how to use the Terminal to implement changes to my system yet
Its going to be the only way, the number of gui steps to get a similar result will be just too long to describe
--the only information you really need, is to use in the Terminal
sudo gedit filename, where filename is the file to edit (to attempt to fix the problem..)

It is an SB (ATI, probably integrated into motherboard Sound Blaster compatible type device)
I think it is too much data, try this instead
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=29164

In terminal, mint menu>Terminal, should be in favorites menu category
lspci | grep audio
--will give a better idea of card/device type, and check the links given or investigate via a search HP sound Linux or Ubuntu jaunty or 9.4 as the search query on the Internet search engine(s)
