GNOME Do

Postby oodles on Mon May 11, 2009 1:48 pm

Just got version 7 RC 1. I had just installed version 6 last night, but decided to take the plunge. Already noticed some differences, one of which being I cannot use the Super+Spacebar to launch Gnome-Do.
Everytime I hit the Super (Windows Key) button, it launches the menu. Any known workaround on this?

I have only played around with Linux distros in the past but Mint might be one that sticks around for me
Thanks.

You can change the keyboard shortcut in mint menu's preferences, you'll need to logout/login again as it uses gconf.

right click on menu
settings
and change "Super_L" to "<Control>Super_L"
reboot :)
now you need to press ctlr-winkey to open menu box
and in gnome DO settings set checkbox "start automatically", or something like that (I`ve russian localization)
enjoy :)

ebaut: on the basis oodles didn't reply, we generally assume the solution worked. Also a full reboot isn't necessary, removing and re-adding the applet from the panel works, as does the login/logout. Also for anyone else coming across this, this is an RC only issue, it was fixed to Ctrl+Super for the main release.

Hello,

I don't see any plugins in the Complements tab of Gnome Do. Just a blank space. Do I need to install an extra-package, or change the configuration somewhere?

Btw, it's a bit uncomfortable that the forums search prompt dismisses both Gnome and Do as search words, because they are too common :) There is no easy way to search for Gnome Do.

Thanks. Cheers,

see viewtopic.php?f=42&p=150700 for the forum search, you're not the only one who finds it next to useless otherwise. There is a gnome-do-plugins package, but it's not available by default as it depends on evolution, which is not installed.

Oh, OK, I thought the idea of the Complements tab was that you could there choose which complements to install, before doing so -I thought, that is, that it was connected somehow to a repository of its own, or some such. So, if I get you right, the default installation of Do is such that no plugins appear on that tab?

Thanks for your help. Cheers,

yep, that's it. If you don't mind evolution being installed, you can install the gnome-do-plugins package easily

Mh, I installed -plugins and still my Complements tab is empty. I don't know, I think there may be something wrong with my Do installation...

meant to ask, I've been assuming that "Complements" is a translation of "Plugins". Is it the 3rd of 4 preferences tabs?

Sorry, yep, I should have guessed "plugins" and not "complements" was the English original. Yes, it is the 3rd preference tab. As I say, it is not showing any plugins at all -neither installed nor uninstalled. Just a blank space.

Thanks for your help!

I've just checked now in a virtual machine, after installing the -plugins package, I had the same thing as you, a blank plugins tab. However, restarting gnome-do fixed that (clicking refresh would probably have done too), so log out and in again, and you should be fine.

Well, the point of dependencies is they keep what needs to be installed installed. One of the plugins will need evolution installed, so the -plugins package needs evolution installed. If you remove evolution, it'll remove the -plugins too. Unless you're really pressed for space, it should be ok to leave evolution installed.

Yes, I know that, but now -once having installed the plugins- I see better how Go works, and where it installs its plugins, so I can uninstall everything and simply install what I need. I definitely think that Go could use a smarter way to install plugins.

Thanks for your help
