I have a plain old sb audigy 2 and the sound is working fine, at least for the front speakers. Not an expert in Linux but I haven't found a control somewhere to setup the speakers. The SB support 6 speakers but only the front ones are working. I'm not using a digital connection.
Is this supported in Mint ? I want to watch dvd in ac3 mode but there is no sound coming from the back speakers.

Re: Multi speakers support
Find yourself an mp3 file that has 5.1 sound or go here: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/354351/ac ... ound_test/
Then open a terminal, type "alsamixer" and adjust channels until you get everything right.

Gee I didn't know that an mp3 can support AC3 ! Anyway I have a few movies files with AC3 and I can't heard anything from the back speakers (using VLC) Since I have a dual boot, Windows/Linux, those movies works fine in Windows.lagagnon wrote:Find yourself an mp3 file that has 5.1 sound or go here: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/354351/ac ... ound_test/

I look at the ridiculous amount of sound volume sliders in Linux and set all of them to full blast with no go. I'm surprised that Linux does not provide a speakers setup facility to test everything. I'm even wondering if multi-speakers analog setup is even supported. That's a serious drawback for watching movies.
P.S. That's a fun web site you provide. However I think it's for digital output since in Windows, I get sound from the back but they don't correspond to the speakers tested. Even the front speakers don't match either.

I went to Menu>Sound&Video>PulseAudio Volume Control to get my USB speakers to work ... not sure about your speakers ...

I'm wondering if an AC3 library is required/missing in Mint ?
Re: Multi speakers support
No, I get 6 channel sound just fine here with a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 card.armagedon51 wrote:I'm wondering if an AC3 library is required/missing in Mint ?

Re: Multi speakers support
All the alsa devices look good. Go back into alsamixer and make sure you unmute the "Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack" and try that. It is the only thing I can think of- that card should just work.
