Sony VAIO sound fix

I just migrated from Fedora on my laptop (Sony VAIO VGN-NR160E...and I noticed that the only problem I had with my hardware in Fedora, is also the only problem with Linux Mint...and the same fix did the trick for both distros. I thought I'd share, in case anyone else has the problem.

When I plugged in the headphones, it didn't cancel my main speaker sound...not much use for headphones if everyone else can still hear it, right?

The solution was to create a file called "alsa" in the /etc/modprobe.d/ folder by typing:

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa
and then I added just one line to the new file:

options snd-hda-intel model=sony-assamd
then I saved and closed gedit, did a quick reboot and voila! the headphones work perfectly, cancelling the main speakers when used.

I stumbled over this post
I see
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa
Please always use gksu(do) with GUI apps - there is a risk you get into real trouble with sudo (mostly in KDE though I think) This is because your *authority files can get corrupted
Whis version do you use?
In Gloria files in modprobe.d should be *.conf
Perhaps they work anyhow to be backwards compatible but that will most likely not be true in the next version of Mint
(And I too say thank you for a good post)
