Like do i need to do anything in Windows XP before i do this? :?: :?: :?:

You missed the most important part of the hardware specs, the vendor's model #
--although we could look up Dell ultra-thin notebook

That one..

You probably have enough RAM for xfce desktop
--as for the rest, well check by running the mint CD live and see what is working..

Yes., if it is dual boot situation (multiboot)
  • Clean up windows
--right-click C: drive, clean up, then defrag
  • Using windows tools to shrink the windows partition
  • Test Linux, running from the CD (live), see what is working..
  • Install Mint, side by side with windows into the free space now available

I installed the Xfce RC1 on an Acer Aspire 1.
click on the Internet icon on the task bar and activate your wireless network
if using cable should be automatic else easy to activate.
