Does Linux Mint fluxbox CE has DRI?

Postby shengchieh on Tue Aug 04, 2009 1:34 pm

Before I give Linux Mint fluxbox a spin, I would like know one thing. Does the latest Linux Mint fluxbox CE has DRI (direct rendering infrastructure)?
I.e., when you do lsmod, do you have modules, dri and glx. And when you type glxgears, a 3 spinning wheels graph pops up.

p.s Il asked the same thing in Linux Mint XFCE.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

DRI and GLX have absolutely nothing to do with the desktop environment, but rather everything to do with your video card driver. Mint usually installs the correct video driver - but if you have a newer ATI or nVidia card after the install process you just go to Menu, Control Center, Hardware, Hardware Drivers and install the new video driver and you should have DRI and glx working properly.

Thank you for answering.

I'm guessing that both LM XFCE and LM fluxbox will work just fine.

A followup question: How much faster is fluxbox compared with XFCE? Fyi, I'm currently using #! (crunchbang = openbox derivative of ubuntu)
on this dinosaur desktop.

Fluxbox will certainly load much faster after the login screen, and will consume probably 1/2 to 1/3 of the RAM that xfce will, but if you have lots of RAM you probably won't notice much speed difference after the loading process. However, if you only have 256MB of RAM fluxbox is the way to go...
