For your network problems just install network-manager.
For the NumLock problem just install numlockx.
Not sure what the problem is for VLC.
You could try to change the DPI under Appearance.
Audacious should be using the Alsa Output Plugin.
Audacious with Alsa uses PCM as the volume control so make sure it's turned up or changed.
To reset your audio settings delete ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-mixer.xml
The emerald-themes package is currently in the community repository. http://packages.linuxmint.com/#7community

Thanks, Merlwiz!

The network is not a problem after manually enabling it and setting DHCP. Just surprised I had to do that manually. Usually it just works.

I'll check out numlockx, thanks for the tip.

I looked at the DPI settings, and custom DPI was checked (active), but the control to set the DPI was grayed out. So I unchecked it and the fonts got even smaller (really, really tiny), but when I activated custom DPI again the fonts got larger than they were before and seem normal now (and the DPI setting works too). So it looks like custom DPI is supposed to be enabled by default, but the setting is not being used (grayed out). Simply un-checking and re-checking the box fixes it.

Nice to know about that audio config file. If I manage to kill my digital out again I'll try deleting that.

Oh wow, I don't know why I didn't think to get the themes from the community repo. :oops: Thanks again! Then again I may not need that now since it looks like all of my problems may be solved and I might just switch to the Xfce Community Edition. Really great work on this edition! Thank you and all who helped make it happen!

Aloha, Tim

You should wait until it's in the Main repo, since they aren't considered stable yet.
I'll fix mint-meta-xfce so it won't uninstall parts of gnome.
I can't stop it from uninstalling mint-meta-gnome, mint-artwork-gnome, mint-meta-main.
The problem is the mint-artwork-xfce package can't be installed with mint-artwork-gnome.
This is why it wants to uninstall mint-meta-gnome, mint-artwork-gnome, mint-meta-main.
If you uninstall mint-artwork-gnome then you'll be missing the metacity themes.
If you don't install mint-artwork-xfce you'll be missing artwork needed for xfce.
The missing artwork may stop xfce from starting, I haven't tried it with the artwork missing.

libavcodec52 and libavutil49 are replaced with libavcodec-unstripped-52 and libavutil-unstripped-49.
Thanks for the explanation merlwiz, I've proposed a blueprint for removing the mint-artwork-* conflicts to enable the DEs to be installed simulataneously - https://blueprints.launchpad.net/linuxm ... ltiple-des

Please keep an eye on bugs reported via launchpad too: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+b ... d.tag=xfce
Can anyone confirm these (I haven't got the XFCE edition installed atm):

https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/409594
Linux Mint 7 - Xfce RC 1

Steps to reproduce.
1. Click Menu | Settings | Xfce 4 Mint Config

The title bar say XCFE4 mintConfig Linux Mint Control Center. Should be XFCE4 mintConfig - Linux Mint Control Center.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/408644
With Compiz on I get a nice green title bar a red x and so on. When I reboot any window I open goes to the top of the screen and only the menu bar is visible. When I check the Compiz setting they are disable. Re-enabling them brings the nice green title bar back.

Steps to reproduce.
1. Click Menu | Settings | Xfce 4 Mint Config
2. Click Desktop (tab / Group)
3. Click Xfce 4 Mint Desktop
4. Click Compiz Fusion tab
5. Click Enable/Disable Compiz Fusion
6. After screen refresh click Apply
Dialog closes.
Now I see a green title bar with a red x. (very nice)
7. Close open windows and restart.
8. Open mousepad. The application opens without a title bar, just menu bar.
9. If I follow steps 1 - 5 Compiz Fusion is disabled.

I tried to reproduce the compiz bug. After step 6, the emerald title bars appeared for 1sec then disappeared . I tried to open a terminal but I get a white window. So I do CTL ALT F1 to get a terminal, try emerald --replace but it failed (emerald:75544 gtk warning** cannot open display ).
I disabled compiz and the xfwm4 decorations reappeared.

I have previously reported that apt-get command failed to connect to internet via proxy with authentication.
I have found a work-around : adding the following lines in /etc/environment fixes the problem :

http_proxy="http://username:password@proxyIP:port/"
ftp_proxy="ftp://username:password@proxyIP:port/"
https_proxy="https://username:password@proxyIP:port/"

Now, even MintInstall works 8) .
