How to use Wine to Run Dreamweaver CS3 ??

Post by DavidS »

Hello,

I installed wine today, though I know nothing about this. But I am trying to get away from Windows entirely.

Can someone help me get dreamweaver CS3 set up and running? I use XFCE version of Mint.

If I can get Dreamweaver to run on Mint, it's all over for Windows.

I would agree, it does look a bit confused/confusing..

The usual trick for windows programs that prove difficult to install, is first install to windows
--which is how some games can be made to work..

http://noteearty.blogspot.com/2008/01/h ... buntu.html

Of course if you have windows, use virtualbox (VM) install windows, then most windows applications will work: and you don't have to worry about wine.
--apart from games (direct X support)..

I do have virtualbox Sun version installed and windows XP pro inside that VM, but it is mostly just sitting there, in case I ever have the urgent need to use Illustrator or Dreamweaver..
--I also have a real windows partition (multiboot) again usually just sitting there and seldom used, but available: just in case I feel the need to run midtown madness (game) as an example
I may get rid of one or the other (VM or real partition), I haven't decided yet..

I don't necessarily see either Dreamweaver or Illustrator as being better than Quanta Plus or XaraLX or Inkscape or Gimp or other applications.: or KompoZer which might be the closest to the dreamweaver look
http://kompozer.net/features.php
--that crashes if you don't use the version of GTK that it wants gtk 2.12..

It would just be nice if Adobe got on the ball, and offered their applications to the whole market

Hey thanks for your input DrHu...

I would love to use a Linux based program to edit my website though my site is built in PHP.
KompoZer is really NVU and I remember trying that a while back. NVU is very lacking!

I love Dreamweaver, but I know Adobe has their inside politics and that's why many companies
don't succeed to the greatness they could. These types of companies really put themselves in
a pile of red tape and have not even a clue what they're doing to themselves.

I'm taking business in my first year of college and they talk about some of this stuff.

I guess so, but they will never suggest it as a good business model: if you want to make money (as they might phrase it)
OH, you meant business (private) bureaucracy, which despite the capitalists doesn't do any better than government (public), their bureaucracy is just as deep and just as moribund

OK, if its not only an IDE you can use, even with PHP scripting which is quite the popular web site style; and on Linux just as popular..
--the complaint against Dreamweaver was always the mixed up html it creates; and its bloat; not that it isn't popular

A list of some of the PHP editors/IDEs' that are available..
--windows Linux etc.
http://www.php-editors.com/review/
http://www.activestate.com/komodo/
--active state's Komodo is a quite well respected IDE (multiple language styles), including PHP; I think it is free for personal use.
http://www.activestate.com/komodo_edit/
--that version Komodo edit..

I tried Komodo Edit. Don't like it. Nothing compares to Dreamweaver.
And Komodo definitely does NOT support php.

I love the lay-out of DW CS3!
