I have been using Linux Mint 7 live CD for a couple of weeks and I'm very impressed.
I am fairly new to Linux and I'm still trying out various distros, only as live CD, I haven't installed anything yet.
I have used a couple of KDE distros and liked the KDE but had other troubles with them, so I am keen to try Mint 7 KDE.
However when I go to the download mirrors listed for Linux mint 7 KDE, the two listed mirrors for Australia don't have the KDE version.
I have tried several of the overseas mirrors but I get incredibly slow download speeds, and they just get slower and slower. After 5 minutes downloading I'm getting indications that the download will take 10 days plus. I have satellite broadband which can be a problem at times but I have downloaded about a dozen other distros without this problem. I have tried it on a windows computer using Download Accelerator; on my desktop using Linux Mint 7 Gnome edition and Firefox; and on an old laptop using Puppy Linux and Axel download accelerator. No improvements.
Is it possible to have it listed on the Australian download mirrors? Preferably Optus, I get good connect speeds from there.
Thanks

Re: mint7 KDE not on Australian download servers
Hi there,
I think you mean direct download? What about a torrent? Does that also come in on low speed?

Yes, I mean direct download. (well, "direct" via a local mirror.)
I'm not really familiar with torrent downloads, I have never used a torrent download.
I don't think torrent downloading suits me - my vague understanding is that to participate in a torrrent, I need to be simultaneously uploading and downloading (?), and it is good behaviour to leave a torrent connection running long after I have completed my download, so my connection is used by others. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, it's all new to me.)
I can't really do that, the satellite connection is quite expensive and has quite small upload/download limits; also I am on solar power so I can't leave the computer running when I'm not using it, it used too much electricity.
I wonder if the download mirrors are slow, if the whole world is busily downloading the recently released Mint 7 KDE??

Yeah, thats the general idea. I do not think a torrent suits you.
If i were in australia i'd send you a copy by post.
I hope the dev team is able to upload a copy of kde 7 because its really great!
Wish you luck and Mint KDE
