Well, S.G. thanks for hanging in there.

From what I see, your laptop doesn't have a wireless card, but seems to have 2 ethernet cards.

So to use wireless you'll need a PCMCIA wireless card. Not too expensive.
Probably an 802.11g Wireless LAN CardBus PCMCIA Adapter,
but maybe someone who knows more about the subject can offer better help.

saludos,
Richard.

I would also think there is no wireless card. Here is what I see in my Acer Aspire six month old laptop.

she stated that she has wireless:
I don't know how to find my network information but here are some of my computer's specifications:

Intel Pentium Processor 735A
1.7 GHz.
1GB DDR2
802.11b/g wireless LAN

My computer is over four years old and I think that perhaps my b/g wireless LAN is now ancient by computer standards and this might explain my spluttering internet connectivity.
:?

Or get your self a "D-Link" usb wireless adapter from any pc shop (Austin computers, DickSmiths, ebay etc) around $30 - $40. my one, D-Link model #DWA-110 worked straight away after putting in the MAC address, found on the back of the adapter into the wireless Access Control section in my router.

I would advise to go down this path for a more secure Wireless network and specify that only certain Wireless PCs can connect to the Access Point into your MAC Filtering Table.

When enabled, all registered MAC addresses are controlled by the Access Rule.

I found that there was NO need to fiddle and geek about with this adaptor.

OK ScottishGirl, thanks for finally posting some data! I guess I was a bit confused becuse in your first post to this thread you said you were dropping from your ADSL - I assumed you meant a wired connection. Your wired connection appears to be working just fine and dandy from the ping stuff I see.

So from what I can gather it is your wireless that gives you grief. First of all please remove that USB wireless adapter AND the wired network connection - let us get the internal wireless working first. You have one fighting against the other at the moment. Remove the USB one and reboot your machine. Now go to Menu, Preferences, Network Connections, Wireless and try to set up your system there. Do a ping (see above) to check if it is working. If it does not work pleaes provide us with the following data:

lsmod
ifconfig -a
iwconfig
iwlist scan
ndiswrapper -l

Now this looks like wireless:

$ iwconfig

Bit Rate:0 kb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm Sensitivity=8/0

but seems to be misnamed as eth1
It happens from time to time.

Don't remember the steps to change the name, but someone will come along to help us find a way.

ScottishGirl: from the data you provided above your internal wireless appears to be working fine. You have good signal strength, the right module (driver) loaded, etc. Try that for a while in various places around your home without the wired ethernet and without the USB wireless dongle. Does the system still drop out on you? If so, try turning off WPA encryption and see if that helps, then we can at least narrow it down to that,,,,
