In the release notes of Cassandra beta 2 I read that it installs Compiz and Beryl by default...so how do I get over that??

One of my biggest criticisms with Ubuntu and those based on it, you don't really have the option of configuring what packages you want/need during the initial install. In any case when you install just uninstall what you don't want/need after the install.manishk wrote:I'm sorry if I wasn't clear.
My doubt was not about Beryl. I know that it doesn't work with my graphic card...or it might with lots of tweaks and stuff.
I dont it to be installed by default, because I know it wont work. I wanted to know if I can disable it from preinstalling with Mint.

that's true... that part is where Fedora really shines (Anaconda installer)... hrmm... is there any chance that we might be able to adapt it for some future version?
oh... and getting Beryl to work with ATI is not all that troublesome... it might take you some 10 minutes longer than with a nVidia card...

I loath ATI cards, nothing but headaches. Even back when I still ran Windows I really got tired of having to update drivers every week and dealing with crashes. In the Linux world they've given me nothing but headaches also, Nvidia supports Linux very well and is a snap to set up. I still have to deal with ATI since that's the video I have on my Laptop.NiksaVel wrote:that's true... that part is where Fedora really shines (Anaconda installer)... hrmm... is there any chance that we might be able to adapt it for some future version?

Yeah I've been happy as a clam with Nvidia, their Linux support is outstanding. I got two monitors and twinview was so bloody simple to set up and very well documented by Nvidia. I'm not running Beryl, it's still too beta for my preference. But I'm running xcompmgr for my transparency eye candy, no problems at all.NiksaVel wrote:agreed... nvidia rox
I have heard scuttlebutt that since AMD bought ATI they're planning on open sourcing the drivers. If they do the drivers will become much more stable and reliable, but right now (and for a very long time) they're crap.
