First we should see what Mint sees. Type aplay -l (small case L) in a terminal & post (copy/paste) the output back here.

What about playing a flash, opening a terminal, typing "alsamixer" and unmute channels with the "m" key until you get sound, and raise the sliders also.

Something easy to try . . disabling your onboard sound in the BIOS. This should give your ICE Card priority for both analog (device 0) & digital (device 1) output.
Save & reboot, . . you may have to play with your audio settings again. ( as lagagnon has suggested above )
If not, easy to change back . .
