You have to Install Mint to your hard drive to be able to save your settings.

Sorry, booting from the CD will not touch or harm your hard drive. Unless you play with or make changes with the GParted application.( will make changes to your hard drive partitions, so stay away from that one.)

Have fun, Richy

This is not the link I gave you. It should be: http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=42

With it, you can choose your mirror (and even you have also a file md5sum.txt to download and check your download), preferably one near you. The link given by atlef is good also, it's a direct download, without choice

If you're Internet connection is faulty then tell your ISP - I've often found that they can magically fix faults if only they know about them.

If it's always going to be this slow, though, I'd think about buying a CD. The link's easy to find on Mint's homepage, under downloads, option to the right.

Finally, depending on where you are, you might be able to get in touch with a local Linux User Group or the equivalent where you live. There'll be someone there who can obtain and burn a Mint or other distro disc for you.

Good luck.
