[Solved] installation problem with mint alongside XP

Post by owweeee »

I've got 2 HDD's one IDE the other SATA,I already have XP on the IDE Drive and 60GB of unpartitioned space on it. I also have 2 partitions on the SATA drive and about 700GB of unpartitioned space. When I try to install mint it will only let me put it on the SATA drive (I'd prefer to put it on the IDE drive but not totally fussed). The installation however only gives me the option of repartitioning the SATA Drive and formating the 2 current FAT32 partitions on there to Linux filesystem.

Has anyone got any idea how I can get round this?

Thanx in advance

Hi

Have you tried using Gparted on the live cd to partition the ide drive for Linux?

No.

How would I use that to sort this out?

You can partition and format your ide drive before you start the install and then when you get to the section "Prepare disk space" you are given the option to specify partitions manually.

If you have any problem with the install have a look at the Mint 7 user guide for suggestions.

Good Luck
