Problems with Video playback and editing [Partly Solved]

Post by shabadu »

Start with Kino: A couple of days ago I was running a job on Kino and didn't change any of the defaults but kino crashed and now it will not come back up. I tried running it in terminal and I get this message:

Code: Select all

>>> Received playlist to store at position 0
>>>> Adding to end
>>> Received request to undo from position 0
>> Trying XVideo at 720x480
>>> XvQueryAdaptors count: 1
>>> Xv: Intel(R) Video Overlay: ports 95 - 95
>>> formats supported: 5
>>>     0x32595559 (YUY2) packed
>>>     0x32315659 (YV12) planar
>>>     0x30323449 (I420) planar
>>>     0x59565955 (UYVY) packed
>>>     0x434d5658 (XVMC) planar
>>> 0: XV_IMAGE, 1920x1088 rate = 1/1
The program 'kino' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 6747 error_code 11 request_code 132 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
this is just the last few lines of the whole list; I assume that everything else to this point was ok.

I've tried running as it suggests with --sync command but that gives same results. I don't understand the rest of the backtrace and debugger stuff. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it twice including a reboot in between installations to clear out temp files and it still won't work. Can anybody help me?

Secondly, I've notice this for a while but since VLC usually works, I've not paid it much mind, but gxine, doesn't work, I know it used to. Avidemux doesn't work most of the time. Miro crashes when I try to play local files. Since these are all programs that handle video, I'm thinking that maybe one of my settings that handle video rendering is set wrong. I don't know how I would figure that out. Can anybody help me with that? Please.

Oh, I'm running Gloria on a Toshiba Satellite laptop with 2GB of memory with an extra monitor attached. I mention that in case that has a bearing on the problem.

Gloria - the KDE edition?
Look in the hidden files and folders in your home for anything related to kino and move it into a new folder (can be nice to have if everything is OK later on)
But as other video programs have problems it may be something else
Run lspci and post, it's good to know the hardware

not KDE.
I'll try that Kino suggestion.

ran lspci with the following results:

Thank you husse, by following your suggestion managed to get Kino working again. I had assumed that when I opted for a complete removal that included the .kino_history folder. It hadn't.

I suppose partly solved means that kino is OK but not the other players
Do the same for them :)
The Intel 945 may also be hit by the Intel problems in Jaunty and it's cousins
Possible solution here - but be warned it's not for newbees
