What I was wanting to check with that command was whether or not you had DVD drive hardware errors show up in the kernel log - which you did not. Although there does appear to be a fault with your ethernet card/chip!
So that rules out having a hardware fault with your DVD drive. I don't have any solution for you at the moment yet....
