Dear all I am newbee and recenly installed LinuxMint 7
after installation everything is working fine except I am not able to hear sound I have already tried to reload alsa as mentioned in

but still there is no sound, when I try to increase or decrease a volume it shows me the status onscreen but not sound it looks like the sound is mute but I checked that volume is not mute even.
I am using HP Probook 4410

at long last, someone posting that they have "No sound problem". I have seen so many posts lately about people who have lost sound that I began to think that I was on my own, as I have NO sound problem either.
Seriously, this is a seemingly common problem that probably you could solve if you go to the top right of this page and in the search box type something about lost sound. There are current threads all concerning the same issue, so hopefuly you should be set to go.

The re-loading of ALSA should solve 90% of problems.
But this powerful method can hardly produce a driver for soundcard.
To move further, we need the output of these commands:
aplay -l
sudo lshw -C multimedia
lspci -v

1. The solution 1 (ALSA+ESound) works
2. The solution 2 (OSS4) does not work yet.

I could not get the solution for this problem and just happen to install Fedore 11. this solved my sound problem but now there are some other issues that troubles such as I am not able to play mp3 songs even vcd/and other video reports some codec missing.
I am still looking some one to solve the no sound problem. though the speaker icon appears on task bar in mint.

the problem of sound is solved in linux mint 8
you can download the linux mint 8 and enjoy the sound atleast on HP probook 4410s
