Can´t Configure Keyboard

Post by Cheemag »

I´ve just installed the pen-drive version. Itś nice, but although I have
entered my keyboard details (MS Comfort Curve 2000) and selected
the United Kingdom layout, the keys are returning the wrong values
with a hash thing instead of the real pound-sign for example!

Any ideas about how to fix it?

Regards,
Cheemag

I don't know what the pen-drive version is, is that a mint supported version ?

And you have the UK version of that keyboard, I think Microsoft has some windows software that configures it

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport ... tsKeyboard
Check Mint menu>Control center>Language Support
right-click panel>Add to panel>Keyboard indicator
--that will let you see the layout in use, and select another if needed..
  • If is use the USA keyboard layout I get this ( # )
If I use the GB (UK) layout I get this ( £ )
--using the same keyboard combination shift 3
Do you have the locales language you need on the system installed, that is English UK
--by default Linux mint 7 (gloria) installs quite a few language components/translations
In terminal, check
  • i localechooser-data - Lists of locales supported by the installe
i localepurge - Automagically remove unnecessary locale da
i locales - common files for locale support p
--I use localepurge to get rid of extra language compnents that i don't need, such as uk (Ukranian) dictionaries/translations and so on; however this operates outside the normal Debian system management, although I have never had any problems using it, and it frees uop some space, albeit not a great deal
One can always use utf encoding to insert other characters, though it will be easier if the keyboard (country) matches the character selected.

My UK layout, if selected

Itś USB Linux Mint 7 Flash Drive.

For Windows, yes!

The problem seems to have solved itself after visiting >Admin>Language Support and taking out
every language but English.

Thank you for your interest.
