what photo app are you using?
I would recommend installing f-spot.

installing it should add all the dependencies to download your photos.

I wish f-spot had not been left off mint3, I would have left of gimp instead if room was needed.

this sounds like and old problem that is from some library file from the backports... I have not checked it on mint 3 yet.

I have used it in the past but i really like how f-spot chronologically creates folders when downloading your photos. and the interface.
