Re: Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 Alpha 6-Nice Features
I was finally able to boot up from a daily build tonight. I see there was a kernel update and Intel drivers, so I will look at tomorrows daily build and see if it still boots up. I saw all of the green check marks on every file, that is an odd bug! I see that there are still remains of an earlier version of xulrunner stuck in Firefox. They upgraded xulrunner some time ago but did not have the install remove the old version first, the end result is the earlier version stuck in Firefox. Well, at least it booted up with my Intel graphics today.
Re: Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 Alpha 6-Nice Features
My understanding is that the Mint team does not release Alpha's for testing. The testing is done internally by the team.
Re: Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 Alpha 6-Nice Features
indeed, but it is in fact more practical than that. Although there is an alpha Helena repository (http://packages.linuxmint.com), only the mintTools are currently in it, and those that are will likely change massively over the next few weeks, as more development gets underway.
Re: Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 Alpha 6-Nice Features
Well, Karmic is still having the problem with instant messengers Empathy and Pidgin crashing (they share several packages and dependencies). There are a lot of bug reports over on Launchpad about it. Not a lot of time left to get it worked out, but I hope they do because this one could be a showstopper for a lot of people and a maaaaaaaaaaaajor annoyance for anyone who mainlines IMs like I do
Re: Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 Alpha 6-Nice Features
Karmic looks a lot better these past couple of days. I see that there are no longer two versions of xulrunner in Firefox, Intel graphics is working and the icon problems seem to be under control. Ubuntu might just pull off a decent release.

I hope it's getting better. Every day there have been 50 to well over 100 files updated. Today was the first day it slowed down, perhaps in anticipation of the Release Candidate tomorrow.exploder wrote:Karmic looks a lot better these past couple of days. I have Karmic main on my 5-year old Dell laptop, and Karmic Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my Acer Aspire One 110.
The UNR has smoothed out and is running reallllly nicely, stable and snappy on the 8gig SSD. It runs faster than the default Linpus Lite, feels almost as spritely as Crunchbang, which is surprising considering that it's Gnome. And for those who loathe brown, the UNR interface is also customisable. Here's mine, wearing the Azenis theme:
Performance on my Main Karmic beta on my laptop is steadily improving, though as previously noted, I still have the problems with IMs crashing. That's all over Launchpad, it's a real problem right now and something Mint will have to keep an eye out for when Helena is released, as it's likely to spawn a lot of user complaints on the forums and IRC. Sound is working well for me, graphics are good.. this is boding well for Helena

hows the networking going with 9.10? have they made it easier to browse your own home network or does it still require hacking, cant remember what file it was, to simply browse your own network?

@ibm450:
I haven't had any issues with browsing my home LAN from either of my Karmic beta installs. It's seeing and accessing both my Windows and Linux machines without any issues or hacking. It 'just works', for me.

I've started a new thread for the Ubuntu 9.10 Release Candidate. This is getting long, and the Subject is no longer relevant.
