Welcome to Mint
Yes the unfortunate truth seems to be that the STA driver is not included
I don't know how this could happen....

Thanks RamDelgado for the tip. I was wondering why my card was working out of the box with the main edition and not with the KDE edition. Now I have my answer. I hope this package won't be forgotten in the next release  ...

I am using Linux Mint Gloria KDE and am trying to install this driver on my computer.

I installed the 32-bit driver from the link in the first post, made the folder, untarred it etc. I get an error in one of the instructions. When I type

modprobe lib80211

the terminal responds

FATAL: module lib80211 not found

that can't be right, can it. Is there a fix for this?

Wasn't there something in the release notes about setting this up? I don't have wifi, I am on a wired connection so there is not much I can do about testing this problem. Sorry....

The release notes refer to ndiswrapper
If you get
FATAL: module lib80211 not found
you have not followed the instructions to compile the wl module - you are not standing in the same folder as you used during compilation - read the Read me carefully
It's not overly complicated but you have to be careful to follow the steps exactly
