Hi everyone I've just bought a new HP pavilion dv6-1361sb -espresso laptop and I can't get any sound with mint 7 main edition installed with mint4win.
The spec sheet I got from the store just says "Sound card: high definition Audio chipset"
I tried to search the forums for help and when I typed lspci in the terminal it said:
01:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc R700 Audio Device [Radeon HD 4000 Series]
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 3628
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17
Memory at da010000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable)
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel
and typing alsamixer resulted in :Sound card: HDA Intel (sound turned up to full)
However inserting "options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=hp-dv6 probe_mask=1 enable_msi=1" in alsa-base.conf and rebooting didn't change anything.
same with inserting "options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=auto" (after deleting the previous addition)
is there anything else I can do? I really don't want to be using windows on this machine

Re: HP sound problem
I think you are on the right track
Look here for a list of possible "models" to add like you have done already
One of them should work for you - unfortunately I don't know which one

Re: HP sound problem
Thanks Husse, I'll try to test those and let you (and other readers of the forum) know if things work.
Re: HP sound problem
Hi
dunno where to post this but I guess it goes well under HP sound problem...first I just like to announce that I solved a particular sound problem with my model and I hope this is going to help someone with the same or a similar problem...
I do have a HP pavilion dv6 - 1040ez and when I installed linux mint 8 helena main edition 32-bit sound was working on the in-built speakers but headphone jack had some issues - that is, no sound...anyways I installed the following:
linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.31-14-generic (and linux-backports-modules-2.6.31-14-generic just in case...)
I noticed that if I install the wrong one (for instance linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.31-16-generic instead of the above mentioned) it screws with my accelerated graphics driver for NVIDIA (version 185) (I do have a NVIDIA geForce) which makes linux start in the "ubuntu running in low graphics mode".
Now, don't get me wrong - I'm a complete newbie to mint and I just experiment n stuff...if, to the experienced users, my solution seems kinda bogus just correct whatever is wrong with it
That said, linux mint 8 helena is working just great now.
Cheers
