That's great! I was really curious about a time frame. I'm pretty new to using Linux, and Mint KDE has been a really good experience. There are some small tweaks I'm really looking forward to in KDE 4.3.

4.3 is easy enough to install on Mint KDE 7. I'm currently running KDE 4.3.2 in Mint 7 KDE. Just remember to run 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' when the updates are downloaded or you will have no desktop to log into =)

I know this is getting a bit old to follow up on, but, would you mind posting your sources.list file & outline the process you took for this? I've got a copy of Mint7 KDE I want to try a bit of upgrade experimentation on.

Thanks,
Rhodry.

Pretty sure this is right. When done, you will have a "generic" KDE 4.3 install with the default theme, etc. So tweaking back to a Minti-fied desktop may be desirable.

Thanks dequire, I have local ISP mirror alternatives available for some of the repos and I just wanted to look at something that works so I can make the necessary comparisons & make sure I had not missed anything important.

Did the update early this morning and everything went fine. It did not take too long to re-Mintify & personalise the setup.

This is SUCH a rock solid distro - main & kde. I have been around Linux boxes since Redhat 4; most folk have no idea how far Linux has come in a few short years.

Cheers,
Rhodry.

dont forget this post:
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=33614

This changes where the KDE 4.2.4 repo is, ie in the jaunty-backports now not the PPA repo.

Just a quick, but important, note
Make absolutely sure that you only have repos for the version of Mint you are running if you make a dist-upgrade or you risk making a mess of your system

Thanks Boo & Husse,

Good advice. I may have not been too clear in my last post. I had already picked up on the ppa --> backports move so my repos took account of that & I did not go anywhere near "Karmic/Helena" stuff.

I really wanted a sample to look at just to make sure there was not something I had not thought of.

My local ISP mirrors a whole swag of Linux distros & they are free from download quota on our plans; so, I obviously try to use them where possible. Unfortunately with Mint, they only mirror the iso's not the actual packages.mint repo so I use local for all the Ubuntu stuff.

I know I could have just waited for a while for the new iso's but I actually am experimenting around a bit with mixing grub-legacy/grub2, chainloading and ext3/ext4, updating kernels and some other new stuff. It's all held within "blow-away" partitions so I can't do too much damage?! 'Gloria' as delivered is still driving the production systems.

BTW, as well as this, I downloaded the new 'Helena' RC last night and put it on a laptop. Man, this is one cool distro!!!!! You folks are SO talented!

Anyway, back to editing Grub2 - that sure aint what it used to be! :)

Take a look at "Software Sources" in Helena - there's a bunch of mirrored repositories to choose from

Thanks, will do.

I keep forgetting to contact my ISP about this as they do have a mechanism for users to ask for new mirrors to be established.

Rhodry.
