Slap on the wrist in the PCLinuxOS forums
Now this really surprised me. I've long hovered between Mint and PCL. I posted a review of Mint 7 in the chat area (a very good review) and to my surprise not only had the post removed but got a really curt email from Texstar (Mr PCLinuxOS) Words to the effect of: "We don't discuss other distros, if you want to praise them do it in their forums" (this is NOT an exact quote but you get the idea)
This change in policy really surprised me as they had always been very open about all things Linux in the past. Now they have censorship.

Re: Slap on the wrist in the PCLinuxOS forums
I have never ventured to the PCLinuxOS Forum, as I have not been able to load any or their OS or the off-shoot OSs, there of.
But, I do frequent several of the Linux OS and related Forums . . . I dare say, that LinuxMint Forum to be the most user-friendly.
Heck ... just friendly, all together.

I noticed that their forums have become more controlled. Too bad.
Re: Slap on the wrist in the PCLinuxOS forums
I don't supposed I would be surprised.
the Ubuntu forums are pretty tolerant, I've frequently praised Mint there.
But other distros are apt to be jealous of our success, and a little insecure...

Re: Slap on the wrist in the PCLinuxOS forums
It's a pathetic attitude but as PCLInuxOS sucks (for me at any rate) I'm not surprised by it. They're just jealous.

Re: Slap on the wrist in the PCLinuxOS forums
I found the administration at their forums to be shockingly rude.
Worst forum I've ever seen.

Re: Slap on the wrist in the PCLinuxOS forums
They do need to relax their rules. I have had problems on their forums twice. I like some of their forum members but I do not want to walk on egg shells worrying that my post will be locked, deleted or that I will be banned. It is unfortunate because it is a good distro. Enough said....I found the administration at their forums to be shockingly rude.
Worst forum I've ever seen.

Re: Slap on the wrist in the PCLinuxOS forums
tried pclinux on an old dell due to the wireless issue with mint xfce and the broadcomcard..Never could get it to work and seemed like everything - and I mean everything needs to be setup unlike mint. never visited their forums. Not impressed with the distro at all. I love Mint and this forum beats any others out there. Ubuntu - was way too weird and snootyt and also heavily censored as far as I am concerned.
Husse does an amazing job here and so do the other mods/developers.

do you paste both lines and commands at the same time or do the first line first and then the seconds line after the first is done???

Use the commands one at a time. You will understand right away when you do this. Hope it gets things working for you.do you paste both lines and commands at the same time or do the first line first and then the seconds line after the first is done???

sudo apt-get --reinstall install bcmwl-kernel-source

Their policy on their forum is what made me leave PCLinuxOS in the first place, even before the distribution began losing its dynamic.

Re: Slap on the wrist in the PCLinuxOS forums
Not trying to hijack this thread - but any help on this wireless install error? Would LOVE to get the wireless going on this old laptop for my shed and woodshop use. Thanks for any help.

Re: Slap on the wrist in the PCLinuxOS forums
Now I will say this, I always found PCL a good solid distro. I disagreed with them not being a part of the development of KDE4 (they are still a KDE 3 distro. I thought it unfair that they did not allow their community to help debuging, suggesting fixes, features etc and plan to release PCL with KDE 4 when they think KDE 4 is ready.
I just found the forums a little anal.

Re: Slap on the wrist in the PCLinuxOS forums
I noticed the PCLinuxOS forum had changed their policy some time ago. I had enjoyed posting in their "Other Distros" section,...then discovered that they had removed it. Same with Ubuntu,...which closed their "Other Distros" discussions. Linux Mint doesn't need to worry too much about discussions of other distros. You know,..if you have a terrific distro, what's to worry about?
