What only 50%, why not 80%
  • "The move from Windows XP to Windows 7 is not so much an upgrade, but more of an expensive migration," he said. "So customers are open to alternatives."
You can say the same about almost every windows sea-change in the OS products made available to their customers..
--the same happened when win2000 was forced to move to winXP for data centers

--IBM is still mad at Microsoft for the OS/2 debacle
  • "Verde has a unique capability to combine virtual Linux and Windows desktops with a common architecture," he said. "We also work with virtual desktop technology from VMware, Microsoft and Citrix, but they are focused on Windows."
Since virtualization is getting or is popular with enterprises, this part seems more useful to them.

Atlanta Linux Fest was at the IBM building in Atlanta. Mark Shuttleworth himself attended and met with some of the IBM executives. This will be a very great partnership. I'm glad IBM is on friendly relations with Linux developers. They are overseeing CentOS.
