Sound AWOL w/LM 7 install on IBM. MP3, Flac, Cds won't play.
Weird. I just installed LM 7 vanilla (mint chocolate chip?) and I have no sound. I am sure I did when I first installed, but now the sound is AWOL when I want to play mp3, or flac files and CDs won't play either. I have tried Soundbird, Banshee, Exaile, Rhythmbox, etc. and none of them will budge. I can't really retrace my steps as I am unsure when sound stopped working. I have installed some audio players (above), Audacity, as well as LAME, Flac and VCD support. Not really sure where to go from here or what to google for. Has anyone run into this issue before?

Hmm. Now my sound is back, but I seem to be missing the top bit on system and program windows. where you can minimize, enlarge, etc. windows. This suggests that the problem could be related to my having used the following command:
