Mint4Win Install question

Post by ers1121 »

I have been using Mint 7 for the last few months, I would like to try using Ubuntu 9.10 also. My Mint install is done using Mint4Win, is there a way to install Ubuntu, using there installer (Wubi I believe) and nor lose my Mint install? I think I tried this once and Ubuntu took out Mint, or the other way around. I would like to try keep them both, being able to choose between Vista, Mint & Ubuntu at start up. Is this possible or will I need to create partitions and do a full install?
thanks,
Ed

I am not absolutely sure but I think you can't use both Wubi/mint4win
This is really a Windows question as Wubi/mint4win depends on the Windows bootloader
There are no problems to have a normal dual boot and Wubi/mint4win however

Thanks, I tried installing Ubuntu using Wubi & it just erased my Mint 7 install. Apparently you can't have 2 installs unless you actually create a partition & install it oh well. Back to reinstalling Mint.

Discard Windows. My mind is at peace since my laptop is "Windows free", and I am contemplating doing the same with my desktop. If you really need Windows use it under linux in a virtual box.

Ubuntu 9.10 uses grub2 and Linux Mint 7 uses grub-gfxboot.
The only way to boot both is to fix it for Linux Mint 7 and then add Ubuntu 9.10 entries to the menu.list.
I currently don't have the time to do it my-self yet.
Also am not sure if Linux Mint 8 will have mint4win.

I have a working copy of mint4win for Linux Mint and have tested it.
It will install everything and add itself to the windows boot manager but will drop to grub shell.
It's a bug with grub2 from Ubuntu.
Here id the bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/477104

Yeah I know there's a bug - but wubi is included so it must have worked at some time :) and you have been really good at this before merlwiz
