Linux Mint Font

Post by facade47 »

Hello :D
I'm trying to take carlos's beautifully crafted letters and turn them into a full-fledged font! This way we don't have to keep track of the SVG's ;) ... I was wondering if clem and/or carlos (and others, of course) could review what I've done so far... I wasn't able to copy the letters directly from Inkscape into the program fontforge :( ... The only letters I have completed are the ones that make up "Linux Mint" (L, i, x, n, u, M, t).

Here is the source file, readable by FontForge.

EDIT 6/15: updated link
EDIT 6/18: updated link again, letters complete though not refined
EDIT 2/28: updated link, posted source file
EDIT 3/24: moved files to box.net

That's a pretty cool idea. Nothing wrong with it so far.

Awesome! :D
Then here's an updated one, it has the letters A, C-J, L, M, O, Q, T-X, i, n, t, u, x, and the characters *\!-%:/+][= and the plus/minus sign and the upside down exclamation mark. (forgive my ignorance of the correct name for that character).

And again, rename the extension to .ttf ....

This is cool. It'll help mintArt to produce consistent pieces of artwork. Excellent work.

Thanks for your encouragement, guys :D

This is the exact reason I wanted to do this, as inconsistency is a major pet peeve of mine

I think I'm just about done :D ... I have all the letters and the most common symbols. To me, it doesn't look quite right, like the letters don't go together well enough, but I can't put my finger on it. So any suggestions for improvement would be great :D

(again, its extension is .ttf)

Although I like what you made I do have to agree with you. I think what is happening with the font is that it has a very art-deco feeling. Personally I have a fondness for art deco but its missing the simplicity and futuristic feeling of the logo. Also the lines are a bit heavier on the curves making the letter asymmetrical in shape, instead of a consistent weight.

That being said this is a pretty cool font you made. :D

Also I don't know why I didn't mention this earlier, you can use this as a start for the font. I used the font Rothwell as inspiration for the logo http://www.1001fonts.com/font_details.html?font_id=1191 This can put you more on the road. Sorry I didn't get that to you sooner.

Alright, so one of these days, I'm going to finish this thing :P
I've done some work on it, I just haven't uploaded the file yet...

In the mean time, take a look at the logo for this website (I happened to stumble across it looking through this blog) : http://foo.riiv.net/
It has a VERY striking resemblance to what I've already created, and looks like the thing I'm trying to aim for...

I wonder what font they're using?...

Oh my goodness! I have neglected this for some time.. I'm real sorry :(

Xanikseo, I used FontForge to create the font.
irisblaze, awesome job on the userbar! :D

School has really bogged me down this semester, so I'm putting this up in case anyone wants to help with it. This is the source file to the font, openable in FontForge. Rename the extension to .sfd
http://nitrogen.files.wordpress.com/200 ... egance.txt

Here's the compiled font. Right Click->Save As... , rename extension to .ttf

You do realize that this is a 4 year old thread?

Glad the 'links' still work. :P

Actually, I'm amazed that they still work.

Ya I was a bit worried about that when I seen the date, thought it might be a dead link by now, much to my amazement it still works :D
I was going to ask what font the logo was made from until I seen this thread and thought well hmm just maybe I'll get lucky, and I did , it's already installed good work on creating it.
Just trying to figure the layout now for the meta city borders, I wanted to use this font as the main font for the theme.
I'll post a link to it for folks to download it unless it's alright with the creator if I add it in the download as well with the theme, but I'll get permission first.
