In terminal, check
- ls -l /dev/dvd
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2009-12-03 03:06 /dev/dvd -> sr0
Code: Select all
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
- I don't know what the purpose of dvd and dvd1 was!
--it is not the default install that sets up the cd/dvd (writer) device
Code: Select all
ls -l /dev/d*

Post 1..
- When I upgraded from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 my DVD burner device name changed from /dev/dvdrw to /dev/dvdrw1.
It's not really hampering me, I'm just curious why this might have happened and how to change it back (so that I don't have to specifically tell programs what my DVD burner is called).
- Also in these links dealing with that issue, having to tell programs which is the dvd device..
- When you try to playback most apps default to /dev/dvd and can't find the device which is now at /dev/dvd1
Note: the scsi method is how things are done now, whether the drive is sata or ide is irrelevant.
--what was your original problem, before you started changing entries to fixup ()the problem ?
Re: dvddrive cant mount, cant play dvd
before i installed linux mint, i had installed ubuntu 9.04 and it also had the same problem. i removed ubuntu and installed linux mint 7 but it is the same problem. this problem with the dvd has been there since the moment i installed a linux based operating system
