* The community support continues to be outstanding, with 116 people gathering this month to donate a total of more than $3,500.
* Linux Mint 8 was released and the x64 is already on the way, giving us the assurance that we will have time to develop a Debian Edition before the upcoming Linux Mint 9 in Spring next year.
* Our Distrowatch traffic share is currently at 4.8%. It has never been so high before, and that’s a good indicator that our user base is growing again.

  • Great news for LM, keep up the good work.
  • Question: This development of a Debian Edition before the upcoming Linux Mint 9, is this the stepping stone to move away from the buggy Ubuntu base? Will it be as compatible in areas already like in Ubuntu with out the need to hard code hacks to make simple networking work (in regards to wireless modems especially)?

I'll save Clem the answer :)
The Debian edition is mostly, but not only, an experiment to
A) Show that Mint does not need to be based on anything in particular and
B) Gain experience
But as it will be released as an official Mint edition it will be tested as rigorously as all Mint releses
There is no immediate plans to migrate from Ubuntu - frankly we could not do that
What lies further ahead is another story

I find that Mint 8 is extremely stable. It took me some time to learn the system but I really like it and will not hesitate to tell others about it. it beats Windows XP. I tended to get malicious windows popping up all the time. I had one pop up and I couldn't get rid of it to go to what I wanted to do without buying the very pricey program to stop getting programs such as these on the desktop.
Thanks for a really good OS and if I can help in any small way it would be a pleasure. GWCourtney

Wow! I observe the ever increasing flow of donations and I must say: You did it. You supply open source software - you do it for free - and you still are able to make money out of it (without spamming us with too much ads). What a perfect business model. I didn't think it would actually work. Well done.
