We use Open Printing Database usually to check current printer compatibilities with Linux.

The MP 130 doesnt seem to have a listing, but I did find a 140, but it is shown as only "partially" working. I dont know if they're cross-compatible though.

Sometimes Canon of Europe has drivers for Linux, so you might check there.

Also check some of the links on this Google Search.

Although Canon's sometime can be made to work with Linux, HP is the best supporter of Linux when it comes to printers.

This is NOT any fault of Linux, but IS a fault of the manufacturers lack of support.

and recorded as working perfectly if one downloads the recommended driver on that page: PIXIMAiP1500; seems a linux enthusiast in Japan has taken it upon himself to create his own repository

Canon Asia website is a good place to look for driver support for current printers

eg Canon offer the MP270 in our shops and here is the linux debian driver http://support-sg.canon-asia.com/conten ... 37502.html (not even just a tar.gz) (cost is approx $US40 for the printer: driver=free)

If one reads the instructions notes of companies such as Brother; that also support linux; and see the small subtleties they have to put in to cope with the many flavours of linux, they do work hard to help and I believe we should praise them when we can

Well according to your link it does appear to have a listing. I cant imagine why my search there couldnt find it before???? I use that site all the time to help users.

please don't think I was doing that; I was pleased to find a Japanese enthusiast who was providing a blog support for some of the Epson/Canon printers;

hopefully the Pixma1500 driver will actually work!!

Unfortunately, all the newer printers are using cartridges that you cannot refill, using chips etc.
So if you want to refill your cartridges, you have to stick with the older printers!
This is why I'm looking for a substitute driver for a canon mp110. But I can't get the recommended ones to work; keep coming up with CUPS error incompatibility.

That is not completely true in most cases. Most manufacturers have another set of cartridges available with a slightly different model number that can be modified and refilled. You have to check their site for the correct numbers to buy so you can then refill them next time.

The ones that you are referring to are the OEM supplied cartridges which are designed to shut down and lock. They are then suppose to be returned to the manufacturer for a tiny refund on a new set of cartridges.

Think of it as "printer DRM". What a raw deal huh?!

A good web search will cure your problem for sure. You could search "printerfillingstation". They usually have a lot of info about cartridges + inks as well.

And I use this to reset the PCI5 and CLI8 cartridges on my MP970 - http://www.123refills.com/news/sudhaus-resetter.html It works perfectly.

I get great results from Hobbicolors inks. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid ... obbicolors They and the resetter are available on ebay and the resetter may be available elsewhere.

If you have the new pgi-220/221 (or 520 as they are called in Europe), there is a different resetter for that. I found it for sale in the UK here, but I'm sure you can find it in the US with a little googling. http://shop.ink.co.uk/shop/product/cati ... dae4d9a115

The nifty-stuff site has lots of great discussion on the best method to refill the Canon cartridges. I'm doing what they suggest and it is slicker than snot! No fuss, no muss. And no $5 billion/gallon ink costs.
