It'll have a open source driver for it, just don't expect wonders from it. Family forum so please edit..

Yes, please do this! As far as an answer to the question though, the MX 440 is an old card and uses the open source driver that is included with the OS now. Unfortunately, NVidea does not support these older graphics adapters any longer. The open source driver doesn't work half bad considering the age of the hardware.

Edited....Thanks guys, but, can i use the 3d effects?
That's cool! I think maybe you can. Try it with the Live CD first. I used to have an MX 440 in one of my machines but that has been awhile. It's worth a shot, you might be able to get some good use out of that old machine. :)

You may but the FPS will probably be low, but that's been awhile ago now.

Can't believe the proprietary driver wouldn't work on that ATI card (4670)? In the hardware drivers app it should have offered one I would think, or there was one available from synaptic package manager, or from there website. Not sure anymore as I yanked all ATI cards out and went to Nvidia when I got serious about Linux.

Try an older release. A lot of people are having issues with Mint 8 because of the Ubuntu 9.10 base. The LTS release might be a great choice on your hardware.
