found this:

Two open gaming platform efforts

"Gamix.org" seems to be taking the lead, but Open Game Console also seems promising.

Of course if they join efforts it would be even better.

some interesting articles (like "the PC is dead"?):

worth looking into. Attracting game Devs is the best solution overall and that will come with time and efforts like these :) .

scorp123 wrote: Or they could release their games in a "Live CD" fashion; e.g. each game boots with its own Linux OS from the game's CD ... But games with their own OS? :? That's quite a step backwards, back into the early 80's where games --now ancient classics-- such as Pinball, Frogger, Jet Fighter and many others had their own boot floppy (which were unreadable under MS-DOS ...).
This is very similar to gamix.org mandriva based distro, since it already comes with the OS in live-cd mode is universal and works on all PCs even if you have Mac OS or Windows installed (not a bad idea that's already being developed for here http://www.gamix.org/gamers.htm has a few examples)

This could be the start of a good thing and many devs will find linux more attractive.

Note: I Haven't tried (so if you plan to flame/judge it, please give it a try first and post how it can be made better)

If you purchased one of the game CD's please post a review :)

woot found a review (sort of) for gamix

http://gigagamez.com/2007/03/19/new-pc- ... en-source/

:)

It seems to be a very simple approach and many linux users don't like it because he's selling free games (mostly for the packagin work)

However alot of digg users who mostly use windows like the idea (specially since they get rid of windows when they popup the game cd)
http://digg.com/gaming_news/New_Open_So ... me_Console

just like people packaging software in the reps (someone has to do it and many thought it was dumb back then) and i do admire his initiative specially coming from a guy who works as a Windows server admin..

If dumbing down just like consoles do is the solution then lets go for it.

Also there's no reason why we can't make a "mint version" of gamix (Gamint) :)

we can package the gpl games ourselves and give them for free, unlike gamix. However if gamix is already selling "free games" , then that means commercial support may come soon enough.

Also this is what open console wants to do, we here at mint may be able to lend a hand ??
http://opengameconsole.org/proposal.html

they need help with their distro.
http://www.opengameconsole.org/wiki/ind ... ing_System

A distro that should load pretty fast, small and can be loaded fully into HD or usb stick (similar to puppy linux maybe)
