Re: New Slogan?
Wouldn't we have to impliment the star trek's L-CARS user interface for this?MaddogF16 wrote:Mint 8 "OS for the next generation"

Yep and you don't type or use a touch screen, it's all done telepathically.
Re: New Slogan?
A couple of ideas I got centered on the "tasty mint" concept
Mint. The tasty Linux.
Mint. Linux made tasty.
Mint. It tastes better. => argh it already exists! http://www.brownschicken.com/
and
Mint. Linux freshness.

Better not use these, I'm getting hungry already. My next post will be how Mint helped me gain 200 pounds...kanishka wrote:A couple of ideas I got centered on the "tasty mint" concept

We could just play on peoples paranoia and say Linux Mint... Use it or They will know....
Seriously though, the original slogan is great and need not be changed.
Re: New Slogan?
think different. would've been perfect if only if apple didn't claim it first
so maybe instead of think different, what about "do different" or "be different"?

English: elegant
Spanish: elegancia
German: eleganz
French: élégance
Italian: eleganza
Portuguese: elegância
Old slogan is very clear. Maybe the word "came" is more complicated, but in this world everyone can figure out the meaning.
Re: New Slogan?
Im a fairly new Mint user and I've never been convinced by the slogan - its pretty good but not great. IMHO to much focus on freedom. I belive that most ordinary computer users want a OS that simply works, is visually appealing and is free (that is, free as in cheap, not as in open source-free). Not if they use proprietary software or not. Maybe this is another issue, but its surely an issue that affects the slogan.
So what do we want to say with the slogan? What message do we want to give? If we want to focus on freedom and elegance, then we could keep the current slogan.
But in the end I agree on some earlier replies: does Linux Mint really need a slogan? I think it would be mature, bold and elegant to perhaps remove it completely.
Just some spontaneous thoughts.

Re: New Slogan?
In the UK there is a sweet (candy) called Polo it's slogan is "The mint with a hole " That sounds like a Mint CD to me
Is it the same candy known in the USA as a Lifesaver?

I don't think so.tower wrote:In the UK there is a sweet (candy) called Polo it's slogan is "The mint with a hole " That sounds like a Mint CD to me

As far as I know, Polo is Nestle's product and trademark, Lifesaver is Kraft's.
But it seems like Polo's slogan is applicable to Mint.
Re: New Slogan?
Although there might be legal issues involved in stealing another companies slogan
Still, as i said before the slogan is fine for what Mint is, a distro based and improving on Ubuntu (which might be hard with 10.04). But if we ever want to branch off and become a completely separate distro then it certainly needs changing.

3) Linux Mint- Choose Elegance,Choose Freedom,Choose Mint
4) Linux Mint- Linux..But Greener
5) Linux Mint- The Minty Side Of Linux

Re: New Slogan?
I love this "from freedom came elegance" slogan.
Pls make it real, far away your based on. You will become exactly elegance.

Re: New Slogan?
i think it should be "From the Best, came something Better" though it dont make sense basically means from ubuntu came linux mint
Re: New Slogan?
These four words describe this distro as much as a short slogan can so it shouldn't be changed.saquerocl wrote:+1rat in a cage wrote:i just love the old "from freedom came elegance" slogan. i think it's one of the best slogans in linux world, it shouldn't be changed.
