hi
I have an updated / current mint 8
but my xorg is eating memory, bloats until it explodes
xorg overtakes all memory within hours and locks up machine with endless swapping
I've stopped all apps and checked /var/logs for errors
I have good ram 512M and 800Mb swap, all tested
nvidia driver is running 173.14.20
where should I look?

Re: xorg memory leak runaway, FATAL mint 8
Is this Mint 7 updated to 8 or a fresh install of 8?
Re: xorg memory leak runaway, FATAL mint 8
OK you're first post says that you updated / only? Or did you save /home and update the rest? Updating can come with it's downfalls as some systems don't respond well after the upgrade. I'm guessing there's a conflict going on in config files somewhere. You may need to back up files and try a clean install unless someone knows a little more magic than me, for others info let us know exactly the route you took in upgrading 7-->8. Thanks

just booting back in after a fresh install of 8.
I saved /home
no major troubles yet

so far so good,
but
Xorg made a bloating .xsession-errors file
that grew at over 50Megs/min until all space was used.
After installing nvidia drivers the error file stopped bloating.
