Skype reinstall SOLVED

Post by fumblejack »

I tried to uninstall skype through the mintMenu, by right clicking and checking uninstall. I thought that the package that I had was older than the one on the website. I have downloaded the package from the skype site, but it won't install. I am running into an error. Also, in the software manager, the check box beside the skype package is yellow? I know that there is probably a better way of doing it, but I am still learning code and thought that I might be able to take the easy way. How do i repair this? How do I do it smoother in the future?

Unfortunately the software manager doesn't completely un-install packages. Open synaptic package manager, scroll down to skype then right mouse the checkbox and select the option Mark to completely remove. Do for both skype and skype-common, then click apply on the toolbar. Close synaptic and retry your install.

Thanks, removing the skype-common worked.
