dwell clicker used to work but does not work now

I am physically disabled and cannot use the computer without assistive technologies.

I installed Mint no problem and was very impressed. I found the assistive technologies and I couldn't believe my luck I might actually be able to use Linux as well as Windows. The clicker worked but then the computer started freezing on start.

I realised that there could be updates that I hadn't installed so I updated with the one and 2 updates not installing any updates other than these.

Mint seems to work well now but the only problem that I have now is that the dwell clicker is not working. I believe all the boxes are ticked but I do not see the click selector and the mouse does not click automatically, not even the left click.

I have tried kmouse tool and for me that is useless as it only has a left click.

I am using the menu under assistive technologies. Are there any other ways of setting this? Should I reinstall the assistive technology and if so what do I need to reinstall?

Are there any other dwell clickers that anybody knows about out there that does all the clicks?

It is part of the default Gnome installation, I don't think there is a separate package available under that name assistive technologies (or assistive, or assist) in the Ubuntu (jaunty)/Mint (Gloria) repositories

Dwell Click is available if you right-click the taskbar (default location is bottom of the screen), and add Dwell Click

• Right click Gnome panel, at the bottom of the sceeen
• Add to panel
• Dwell Click

Thanks for the reply. I have scoured the ubuntu repositories with no luck.
right clicking on the taskbar the dwell click does come up (very nice) but it doesn't work. Only the left-hand mouse button is selected and none of the others are selectable. This isn't the dwell click panel that I had before, that panel was black and could be moved around the screen although I do prefer the one in the taskbar.

Thanks for the other links very interesting, I can't get the gok keyboard to work (I am sure that I have all the packages to go with it) but on looking at konqueror I found out one of the extensions was kvkbd and this worked direct from the repositories, it's not a great on-screen keyboard but it is a keyboard nonetheless.

I still could do with that dwell click working though!

Hmm, yes that will depend on your mouse hardware (it has or has not extra buttons, 3 button mouse for example, and that if it does have extra buttons, your /etc/X11/xorg.conf includes those button settings

Well, I didn't find it to be any type of learning curve.

I am also guessing that you have been using the KDE version of Linux Mint, based on your comments, I don't have that version running

Gok, Gnome onscreen keyboard includes a dwell feature

• It is available in synaptic (mint menu>Package manager) installing Gok and gok-doc

just type gok in the search area at the top of the screen
--you may want to hit the reload button (top left side of synaptic) first to see if any updates are available for the installed OS.,.

You can also install it via a terminal

I have the Linux Mint eight main edition. The kde keyboard I installed myself. I do have an annoying main menu ubuntu icon. I also changed the main menu to the old gnome menu as it makes it makes it more accessible for me.

I have installed gok but it hasn't appeared on the main menu. I have had a look around and found the folder but can't find the executable. If I need to change to another type of Mint and then the accessibility features will work then could you point me in the right direction.

I do have Dasher installed, it's better than nothing but pretty slow and not as good as an on-screen keyboard.
