Hi All,
I have installed LinuxMint8 on my pc (single os) and have a problem in that when I shut the machine down it goes through the whole shutdown cycle fine and then promptly restarts.
The only way I can avoid this happening is to keep the start button pressed for about 6 seconds during the restart cycle which forces the machine to shut down. I don't really like doing this as with the best will in the world there is always some hdd activity and I don't want to trash my disk.
Would appreciate any help on this one
Thanks in advance
Jim

Re: PC Reboots when shutting down
Open a termial and try this way to shut down, see if it is different, or if you get any messages:
Code: Select all
sudo halt
Re: PC Reboots when shutting down
Cheers Breaker - will try that tonight when home and report back
Re: PC Reboots when shutting down
Hi,
Sorry for delay but have been away.
Afraid the sudo halt command is just the same as selecting Quit on the menu
Anyone have anymore ideas

Re: PC Reboots when shutting down
This type of problem is either the manufacturers mainboard issue or it is an apic issue, try running the system with noapic as a kernel option
